Islington PFI Scheme Success

LPC have helped to replace more than 6,000 street lights in Islington over the past five years as part of a huge revamp of lighting in the borough.

The Public Lighting PFI Project has also installed an extra 1,360 lamp posts across the borough and replaced 1,240 traffic signposts and belisha beacons. Working on the project since its inception in 2003, LPC Construction has worked alongside EDF Energy and latterly, Scottish & Southern Energy to relight 105 miles of roads.

Cllr James Kempton, Leader of Islington Council, said, “This has been hugely successful and Islington is now better lit than ever before. Good lighting makes streets safer, and we know that’s vital for residents. It also brings our communities to life after dark.” Patrick Leneghan, Construction Director for LPC Construction, said, “LPC is delighted to have been part of such a successful team on what was a pioneering scheme and one which has contributed greatly to improved safety in Islington”.

The end of the five-year lighting project was marked with a community ‘Spotlight Islington’ event in Laycock Street on Monday 4th August with face painting, story telling and competitions.
